Satellite TV Software - PC Video Watchers And Software Users Closing The Bridge On Web To PC Gap!

Thursday, May 28, 2009

According to Ipsos MediaCT, a leader in Research, Opinion and Insights, television still tops but PC video watching is growing. So what does this have to do with Satellite TV software packages? This too is part a PC video watching trend that keeps growing across the globe each year. A recent study showed the PC is gaining ground on television. Among U.S. video downloaders and streamers, there was a 5% drop-off in the amount of TV-set video consumed. During February 2008, it dropped to 70% compared to 75% in 2007.

While Oldteevee still remained as the top video watch-dog for most people, it dropped as watching-video-on-PC increased. In fact, the latter showed a 19% increase in 2008 compared to 11% in 2007. Once might assess this data giving some insight to what may lie ahead for cheap or free PC video with a poor economy and high cost of living.

More information showed Americans ages 12 and over streamed and downloaded video one out of every five hours. In fact, there was a rise in PC video watching among all age groups (12-17, 18-24, 25-34, 35-54, and 55+). With television as the first choice for video media and PC second, statistics clearly showed more video was accessed by computers among the first three age groups at 24%, 27%, and 21% when compared to the last two age groups. Not so surprisingly, television continues to be significantly higher.

These figures clearly show an increase in the youth movement towards online movies, TV media, music videos, video games, YouTube, etc. Subsequently, video watching for the most part is home-based right now. But teens were found to have the highest use of video portability with the likes of laptop and hand-held computers, as well as cell phones with an Internet connection. In addition, cell phones used for video did not show a significant increase at 1%.

When looking at social networks such as MySpace that include video and now has gone mobile, as well as top search engines like Google and Yahoo, the video trend continues to head in an upward video swing--whether it is for a profit or fun. Internet video media has become easier to access as well as create giving kids and adults creative things to do, whether good or bad.

When weighing in a slow economy, high costs, video youth movement, mobility, and portability compared to traditional television, including Satellite/Cable TV, Satellite TV software for the low price somehow makes up for whatever is lacking at home. Although free Internet media accessed through software automates playing premium, HDTV, and on-demand channels, it doesn't provide Satellite/Cable television programming. Instead, it may provide the next best thing. With an easy to use well organized interface and no tech know-how needed, this type of gateway to Internet media makes it more appealing to newbies. And perhaps becoming the bridge that closes a web to PC video gap.

When summarizing this information it gives a general idea what is ahead in the coming months. More and more large television networks are streaming free popular TV episodes, sports, movies, Worldwide news, and other media to the Internet and with that comes more advertising. Whether or not Internet ads and commercials will decrease the enjoyment of live/recorded Internet media is somewhat unknown. But in all likelihood, it will.

As more computers with broadband connections continues to grow among households so will Internet TV media players installed in them. For obvious reasons, their popularity have grown largely with the likes of Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Satellite TV Player, P2P PlayerBusiness Management Articles, and others. This will indeed add to a remarkable Internet video industry that continues to grow at an alarming rate.

What are browser hijackers?

Monday, November 24, 2008

If you are one of the millions of people who have suffered a browser hijacking, you likely know it, and you clearly remember what you were doing when it happened. The best known form of browser hijacking is when a sudden flood of pop-ups, many of them obscene, explode over your screen and you are forced to use the CTRL-ATL-DEL sequence to close your browser and regain control of your computer. Here is a quick guide you can use to identify the different kinds of browser hijackings and how you can rid yourself of them once and for all.

What is a browser hijack?

A browser hijack is exactly as it sounds: an attempt from a third party to take control of your web browser and use it for their own nefarious purposes. Some browser hijacks can be done to spread awareness of a particular website, but aren’t actually dangerous. In some cases, though, they can be malicious, and they can steal information like passwords you have saved into your browser automatically. Perhaps the most common type of browser hijack is done by a program that installs itself on your computer without you knowing. The program will add several favorites to your list without your knowledge, and it will change the start page of your browser and even some registry keys. When you attempt to reset your browser, you will be unable to do so.

With these types of hijacks, you are also falling victim to keyloggers that record passwords for sensitive sites like online banking and email. How can you tell if you have a browser hijacking program on your machine? Let’s look.

What might you notice?

The most obvious sign of a browser hijack is that your start page has been changed and you can’t change it back. You may notice a complete slowdown in the performance of your computer since many browser hijacks work as fully functional programs that run in the background of your computer from the time you turn it on to the time you turn it off. These programs are often resource hogs that cause everything else on your machine to run slower.

You may also notice that a whole new set of bookmarks have been added to your browser that you’ve never seen before. Some websites have been known to add one bookmark (usually one for that particular site), but if you see a whole new folder full of questionable bookmarks, you may have a browser hijacker installed on your machine.

How did it get there?

Just like most malware programs, browser hijackers find their ways onto your machine in a number of different ways. The most common way is via peer to peer software programs like BitTorrent and Kazaa. Often times, the person who you are getting a file from doesn’t know that they are sending an infected file to you so your infection isn’t intentional.

A second spot where many people receive browser hijacker programs from is bundled with freeware or shareware programs downloaded from sources that aren’t trustworthy. That’s why it is always a good idea to download your free software programs only from the manufacturers’ site or from a site that promises that they are virus and spyware free.

Finally, some viruses come from websites that automatically install them on your computer. If you have been visiting some less than reputable websites, it is a good idea to avoid them at all costs in the future. These files simply install themselves without asking your permission or even notifying you that it is happening.

What should I do?

The first step you should take if you feel that you have a hijacker installed on your computer is head to the Microsoft Update site to ensure that you have all the patches and updates you need. Microsoft does a great job of stopping many of these.

Once you’ve updated and restarted your computer, you need to install a reputable anti-spyware program on your computer to run in the background and monitor what bad programs you come into contact with. Two reputable programs are provided by Paretologic and PC Tools Software. Both not only remove browser hijackers they also provide the dynamic monitoring you need to protect you against future hijacks. You can download and install either of their programs in minutes. Run a full scan of your machine immediately. Once you’ve removed any initial problems, you should run a full scan of your machine at least once per week to ensure that you haven’t come down with any browser hijackers or any other program that can affect your machine in a negative way.

Finally, make sure you keep your anti-virus and anti-spy ware programs updated at all times. If you don’t have them installed, you should purchase and install them right away. Even if you have the latest anti-virus program, you should still strongly consider an anti-spyware program since, even though there may be some overlap between them, they generally detect a different suite of programs.

The Way People Communicate Has Changed Over Time

Communicating information always has been extremely important. Throughout history, some information has had value beyond measure. The lack of information often costs huge amounts of money and, sometimes, many lives.

One example of this took place near New Orleans, Louisiana. Britain and the United States were fighting the War of Eighteen Twelve. The Battle of New Orleans is a famous battle. As in all large battles, hundreds of troops were killed or wounded.

After the battle, the Americans and the British learned there had been no need to fight. Negotiators for the United States and Britain had signed a peace treaty in the city of Ghent, Belgium, two weeks earlier. Yet news of the treaty had not reached the United States before the opposing troops met in New Orleans. The battle had been a terrible waste. People died because information about the peace treaty traveled so slowly.

From the beginning of human history, information traveled only as fast as a ship could sail. Or a horse could run. Or a person could walk.

People experimented with other ways to send messages. Some people tried using birds to carry messages. Then they discovered it was not always a safe way to send or receive information.

A faster method finally arrived with the invention of the telegraph. The first useful telegraphs were developed in Britain and the United States in the eighteen thirties.

The telegraph was the first instrument used to send information using wires and electricity. The telegraph sent messages between two places that were connected by telegraph wires. The person at one end would send the information. The second person would receive it.

Each letter of the alphabet and each number had to be sent separately by a device called a telegraph key. The second person would write each letter on a piece of paper as it was received. Here is what it sounds like. For our example we will only send you three letters: VOA. We will send it two times. Listen closely.

In the eighteen fifties, an expert with a telegraph key could send about thirty-five to forty words in a minute. It took several hours to send a lot of information. Still, the telegraph permitted people who lived in cities to communicate much faster. Telegraph lines linked large city centers. The telegraph soon had a major influence on daily life.

The telegraph provided information about everything. Governments, businesses and individuals used the telegraph to send information. At the same time, newspapers used the telegraph to get information needed to tell readers what was happening in the world. Newspapers often were printed four or five times a day as new information about important stories was received over the telegraph. The telegraph was the quickest method of sending news from one place to another.

On August fifth, eighteen fifty-eight, the first message was transmitted by a wire cable under the Atlantic Ocean. The wire linked the United States and Europe by telegraph. This meant that a terrible mistake like the battle of New Orleans would not happen again.

Reports of daily news events in Europe began to appear in American newspapers. And news of the United States appeared in European newspapers. Information now took only a matter of hours to reach most large cities in the world. This was true for the big cities linked by the telegraph. However, it was different if you lived in a small farming town, kilometers away from a large city. The news you got might be a day or two late. It took that long for you to receive your newspaper.

On November second, nineteen twenty, radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania broadcast the first radio program. That broadcast gave the results of a presidential election.

Within a few short years, news and information could be heard anywhere a radio broadcast could reach. Radios did not cost much. So most people owned at least one radio. Radio reporters began to speak to the public from cities where important events were taking place.

Political leaders also discovered that radio was a valuable political tool. It permitted them to talk directly to the public. If you had a radio, you did not have to wait until your newspaper arrived. You could often hear important events as they happened.

Some people learned quickly that information meant power. In the nineteen thirties, many countries began controlling information. The government of Nazi Germany is a good example.

Before and during World War Two, the government of Nazi Germany controlled all information the German people received. The government controlled all radio broadcasts and newspapers. The people of Germany only heard or read what the government wanted them to hear or read. It was illegal for them to listen to a foreign broadcast.

After World War Two, a new invention appeared -- television. In industrial nations, television quickly became common in most homes. Large companies were formed to produce television programs. These companies were called networks. Networks include many television stations linked together that could broadcast the same program at the same time.

Most programs were designed to entertain people. There were movies, music programs and game programs. However, television also broadcast news and important information about world events. It broadcast some education programs, too. The number of radio and television stations around the world increased. It became harder for a dictator to control information.

In the nineteen fifties, two important events took place that greatly affected the communication of information. The first was a television broadcast that showed the East Coast and the West Coast of the United States at the same time. A cable that carried the pictures linked the two coasts. So people watching the program saw the Pacific Ocean on the left side of the screen. They saw the Atlantic Ocean on the right side of the screen.

It was not a film. People could see two reporters talk to each other even though a continent separated them. Modern technology made this possible.

The other event happened on September twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-six. That was when the first telephone cable under the Atlantic Ocean made it possible to make direct telephone calls from the United States to Europe. Less than six years later, in July, nineteen sixty-two, the first communications satellite was placed in orbit around the Earth. The speed of information greatly increased again.

By the year nineteen hundred, big city newspapers could provide people with information that was only hours old. Now, both radio and television, with the aid of satellite communications, could provide information immediately. People who lived in a small village could listen to or watch world events as they happened.

A good example is when American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. Millions of people around the world watched as he carefully stepped onto the moon on July twentieth, nineteen sixty-nine.

People in large cities, small towns and villages saw the event as it was happening. There was no delay in communicating this important information.

A few years after Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon, the United States Department of Defense began an experiment. That experiment led to a system that could send huge amounts of information around the world in seconds. Experts called it the beginning of the Information Age. The story of that experiment will be our report next week on EXPLORATIONS.

How to Keep Track of Your Marketing Internet Files: Software Review

Sunday, November 2, 2008

I recently had the opportunity to review a really cool piece of software for internet marketers.

It is called PromoBuddy. It is a database program that is geared toward helping the internet marketer keep all the resources they use on a regular basis at there fingertips and easily accessable.

Do you have trouble keeping track of all your marketing activities and files on your hard drive? I did.

That was until I got my hands on a new internet marketer’s database organizing software! It is called PromoBuddy. It was designed by a marketer, named Detlev Reimer.

In a recent email he shared his advice on learning all you can about internet marketing. He told me he has read at least 30-35 ebooks by top Internet marketing experts and now it seems to paying off for him.

Detlev has been doing marketing for over 15 months. He has just gone full-time with his Internet marketing...Jan. 1st!

Its going on a week now, that this software has been installed on my hard drive. There has not been more than a few hours go by when it is not open and minimized. It is always ready for me to pull it up to input some data quickly.

It has allowed me to have all 20 articles that I have written for promotion into one place. It makes it so easy to find affiliate information, keyword data and ads when I am filling out forms for promoting the website.

In a weeks time I now have a list of over 200 internet marketing articles with useful information. I may want to refer back these articles or publish them in a future issue.

It has files for me to keep all my login details, and it keeps a list of Ezine databases, and Article Databases at my fingertips. It allows you to be able to go down the list, submit an article and know which ones still need to be submitted and to which sites.

What an awesome tool to save time and keep organized.

His web page is an education, in and of itself. It has links to screenshots of all the different aspects of the program.

It is simple to get going with it. You can have it installed in less than 5 minutes. You can be putting it to great use within the first half hour of using it.

The only drawback, I found was that it was missing a few categories. A quick email to Detlev, about these suggestions, and I am told they will be added to a future upgrade.

Check it out. Like all great software, you can try a limited version before you buy it, to get the feel of the program.

It has saved me time, and helped me focus on whats most important. The marketing aspect of my site. Now I don't have to hunt all over my hard drives, trying to remember where I put that one particular file I need to reference.

At the touch of a search button, you can bring up several articles written on a specific topic. You can sort and change the search angle in a variety of different formats.

Could you ask for much more!

Internet Security - Virus Checkers and Firewall Software, Protection Tips!

I been using the Internet for a long time now, so long I don’t even remember when the first I ever used it. But back then there was a lot less hassle of having protection on our PCs and not only that! You also didn’t have to worry about having your very own identity stolen!

Today’s world is totally different, there are hundreds of thousands of people on the Internet that would love to steal your credit card, bank details, paypal account you name it they want it!

But it’s not just that they also want to take your identity to ruin your credit by taking out massive loans in your name and having it paid in to your account for them to just withdraw it from there PC…

It does not stop there either, not only are we scared to wits of losing our cash but we also have people wanting to destroy our data on our computers out of pure fun and joy… It’s a sad world we live in.

Now I’m not here to scare you, don’t close that Internet connection just yet as I do also have some great tips and ideas on how to keep your self protected from such worries.

Firstly, every computer must own a Firewall, but I can hear the slow ticking in your head already banging away and asking… What’s a Firewall?

Firewalls are designed to prevent other computers accessing your computer without your permission, to keep this very basic, a firewall is basically wall between you and the Internet. For others to get pass this wall they have to be given permission from the users on the other side.

Firewalls are great protection; I have used many, ZoneAlarm, Norton and also McAffee. But the best I have seen so far would have to be from Panda Software. They have a two in one package having Antivirus and Firewall all in one box. Though this may stop people from trying to attack your PC using software etc there are still many other routes that you can get attacked.

Viruses, Spyware, Trojans are just a few names that are currently taking advantage of thousands of PCs around the world; a firewall will not protect you from all of these!

Instead, you are going to need an Antivirus product which will take care of most of these threats.

Most Antivirus software will protect you from almost all threats on the Internet, you don’t need Spyware protection for Spyware, Trojan protection for Trojans… You get the picture?

One single Antivirus application will do all the work for you, don’t sit there searching endless searches for different products to help you out… Why?

In the end you will have loads of junk software on your PC all taking up system resources and wasting your computers CPU power. You will start to see your PC running slower and in the end you will just have to do a recovery of the entire system because it will be too naked to even start up… Phew!

But you get the picture now; a single application is all you need, the big brand names do all this for you at the moment, it runs in your task bar and does almost everything except make you a nice cold tea! Just make sure you install the latest Antivirus software soon as your Operating System is installed… We don’t want anything bad slipping through do we!

To keep your self safe from all the nasty stuff on the Internet then the only best advice I can give you is to stay away from them bad nasty adult sites and also stay away from FREE software sites… These type of sites are hard to pick from, some are bad… Some are good.

Keep your software up to date and watch where you go and you should have no problems at all.

What Is Antivirus Software And Why Do I Need It?

Sunday, September 16, 2007

Anti virus software is important for your computer's (and your) wellbeing and the Internet can help out with some free utilities. .

How long have you been on the Internet? And you don't have any Antivirus software? That's certainly a big risk. Antivirus software utilities are expensive? Yes, it is true. Many of these programs are expensive, but they are absolutely essential.

Once installed on your system, and if kept properly updated of all virus definitions, an antivirus software utility will scan all files and separate the suspicious from the safe. It will alert you if a file is infected and either delete it or quarantine it so it cannot cause havoc with your machine. That way you system is constantly protected from the destructive behaviour of viruses. You will not be at risk of infection and, since a virus replicates itself, you will not risk infecting your friends.

Still, if your budget is too limited to include some of the heavyweight antivirus solutions such as Symantec's Norton, McAfee or Kaspersky, there are some free options available if you know where to look.

You basically have two options when it comes to free antivirus protection. You can use a free antivirus software package or you can do an online virus scan. Choosing an online virus scan is basically a good introduction to a product. Trendmicro.com scans your hard drive for free using its House Call antivirus software program. You allow the program access to your hard drive. It scans, locates and clean your infected files, if any, but won't collect personal information or log you IP address.

Do a quick web search for Free Online Virus Scan to bring up some other websites that offer the same service.

You ultimately need to install good antivirus software right on your computer. The most important thing that such software does is real time scanning. This means that whenever you download email or enter a website it is scanning the files and programs you may be downloading and checking to see that they are virus free. If a virus is detected the software will warn you right away, before you open the file and infect your computer.

There are options. If you type Free Anti Virus Software Downloads or Free Antivirus Utilities you'll bring up various results. Products like ClamAV, AntiVir Personal Edition, AVG Anti-Virus software, avast!Free Web Content, BitDefender are all free. As with any antivirus software utility you need to keep it updated regularly of all virus definitions so that it can do its job properly. The utility needs to be informed of the all active viruses so that it knows how to protect your system.

A virus seeks out users with a slack awareness of their computer's security needs. Be informed. Do a virus scan today.
